In the interest of full disclosure, I should probably tell you that I didn’t do shit yesterday. My daughter is over this weekend and, while I normally do at least two or three hours of work each day she’s here, I totally blew off Saturday. She’s turning eight this week and we had an early birthday celebration. We opened presents, played with LEGOs, and hung out together the entire time.
Best. Day. Ever.
As a result, I’m not even counting Saturday in this check-in–and I don’t feel the least bit guilty about it.
Anyway, goals.
Work
I will spend three hours each day working on freelance writing. Done.
I will spend one hour each day working on this site. Nailed it.
Play
I will spend one hour a day doing whatever the hell I feel like doing. Oh yeah.
I will spend two hours a day reading books. So nailed it.
Health
I will spend one hour a day doing something to improve my physical health. Er…
On the health front, I’m averaging about ten minutes worth of walking a day. Not nearly where I want to be, even though exercise is only one of the possible things which could count toward that goal.
Otherwise, everything else is going great. The writing is going well, I sold another article, and I’m reading at a good enough pace that you should expect new book reviews here any day now.
How did your first week of the new round shape up?
Great goal progress. An eighth birthday party is so much more important.

I also like that one where you spend an hour doing whatever you feel like guilt free. I think there is a lot to be said for it.
Have a great week. x

My daughter and I had a fantastic weekend and I managed to get enough done yesterday to silence my Inner Puritan so it all worked out anyway.

Good progress on your goals this week. I agree with Laura–birthdays are way more important.
If I don’t get out of bed, throw on my sweats, and go walk right away, it doesn’t get done. An hour is a huge time commitment, though. Start with 15 minutes and work up in 5 minute increments over several weeks. After a while, you really miss it when you can’t go walking. I’ve got a special playlist on my ipod just for walks, and I think about my plots and characters a lot during that time. If you can have hot coffee waiting at the house when you get back–Oh Man!–that’s the best!
Have a great ROW80 week!

The sad thing is my one hour a day of improving physical health doesn’t have to be all exercise. It can include things like finding new and nutritious recipes, looking for a local yoga class, or even finally buying some insoles so my shoes don’t hurt my back. Even with that liberal definition, I’m not so much with the doing it.
I will be dusting off my iPod this week, and finding some podcasts or audiobooks to fill it with.

You shouldn’t have any guilt at all about Saturday! How wonderful to spend time with your daughter. The years are so short with kids growing up that you have to simply savor those special times with your children.
Great week, though! You really slammed those goals. Best wishes for another successful one!

So far, this week is shaping up to be even better work-wise. Hopefully that trend continues.
